Be Aware on How Smoking Affects a Person’s Mental State
Those who do not smoke may think that it is simple and easy to quit smoking but they are wrong. Those who do not smoke do not know the mental challenges that a smoker would undergo once the person would stop smoking, and these challenges would include many mental health obstacles, bouts of depression, relationship challenges, stress levels, and many others before finally overcoming the habit of smoking.
Fortunately, the good news is that the negative effects on a smoker’s mental health are only temporary from the effects of nicotine withdrawal. Know that the duration of the symptoms of stopping to smoke usually will not last that long, like only a few days to a few weeks depending on the individual.
Be aware that there are far more mental health benefits that you will get if you stop smoking after you have overcome the different issues after you quit smoking. Know that to quit smoking would mean giving your body a chance to be in a great physical condition, from a reduced risk of lung cancer and heart disease, to healthier skin, hair, nails and teeth. On top of these few mentioned better physical health, to quit smoking would also give several positive effects on the well-being and mental health of a person.
As revealed in some studies, there is an unusually high correlation between smoking and mental health problems. Researches in the past have shown that more than 40% of smokers are inclined to have at least one mental health concern, and thus are more likely to pick up the habit of smoking. To know these numbers is not a surprise to some who is aware of the effects of nicotine on a person’s body, since this drug can help those who are suffering from a mental illness, making the person feel calmer when under the state of anxiety and depression.
But sadly over time, nicotine use can actually increase the anxiety of the smoker thus the positive effects of nicotine on mental health becomes short lived leading to some nicotine withdrawal symptoms once the smoker would stop smoking.
Some smokers would feel uncertainty to totally kick out the habit of smoking when they experience these withdrawal symptoms, but remember that there are several options that one can take in order to gradually quit the habit and slowly adjust the physical and mental conditions of the person. Vaping is one example of what a smoker can take to kick the habit of smoking, and this is becoming very popular nowadays. Note that although vaping contains nicotine, the amount is very small and has a much lower risk of conditions like stroke, heart disease and cancer.
